It’s been a little over 7 months since the initial release of Cyberpunk 2077 on December 10th, 2020. The most anticipated game in 2020 was supposed to be a big win for its long-awaiting fans after so many L’s in that year. The first-person action role-playing game developed by CD Projeckt had promised an immersive game that takes place in a futuristic dystopia world that is run by corporations. Months before the game was released, the anticipation for the game had reached an astronomical height with the majority of the game’s community talking about it.
The game, however, fell very short of everyone’s expectations and was unlike anything that the publishers had initially marketed it as. You would expect that after numerous delays that the game would be at least playable. Cyberpunk 2077 was essentially unplayable on the older Playstation and Xbox consoles when it first came out in December 2020. And the worse part is? It still has so many issues to this very day. From constant crashes and slowdowns to countless bugs that plague the game, it has been one bad gaming experience after another.
Is Cyberpunk 2077 better on PC or Console?
For those who think they are safe because they have the Playstation 5 or Xbox Series X consoles, you’re wrong. Depending on the gaming rig for a lot of PCs, Cyberpunk 2077 continues to perform its best when it comes to PC. And we are not talking about just any regular PC. Here are the recommended PC Specs if you want to play Cyberpunk 2077:

- GTX 1060 6GB, GTX 1660 Super
- 12GB RAM
- 6GB VRAM

- Windows 10 64-bit

It is important to note, however, that even with these recommended specifications, the game (Cyberpunk 2077) will still likely run into performance issues and other glitches. After countless attempts at adjusting settings, and upgrading parts to try, the game has a lot to work on.
If you still need some convincing, I played Cyberpunk 2077 on both my PC and Xbox console. I‘ve logged about 19 hours of ’ “Cyberpunk 2077” on a PC with Nvidia RTX 2080 Super (GPU) and Intel Core i7-4790 for around 29 and about 18 hours of gameplay on the Xbox. Sure enough, the game feels smoother in terms of performance and stability on the PC as opposed to the Xbox. While there is still an incredibly large number of bugs in the game, the PC experience takes the win on this.
A Public Relations Disaster
In all fairness, Cyberpunk 2077 is not the only game that has come short of expectations. However, we won’t get into that as we aren’t here to shame anyone. It takes a tremendous effort to produce and maintain a great game, and while CD Projekt definitely got the idea down, they need to work on their execution.
That being said, many users are calling CD Projekt for overpromising on their game. The massive disparity between the marketing contents and the actual game caused a massive pushback from the consumers. CD Projekt has since issued numerous apologies with promises to fix the game’s many issues and eventually offer refunds to consumers.
What does the future hold for Cyberpunk 2077?
This year, CD Projekt has been dishing out patches after patches on fixing issues within the game. The latest patch 1.23 notes for the game indicates that they are really focused on fixing the gameplay, stability, and performance issues that have been hindering gamers since Day 1. One noticeable fix was after killing an NPC and stealing their car, their body could get stuck in the car. Honestly, not trying to haul a dead body in my car. Leave that for GTA 5.
Despite these numerous fixes, the game still has some ways to go before it can win back over the hearts of its former fans. However, it is an undeniably good concept, and all bugs and performance issues aside, the game boasts quite a few amazing artworks, voice-overs, memorable characters, concept visual designs, and some amazing animations (when it’s not being glitchy). The game could definitely still make a comeback. However, the public relations disaster has definitely left CD Projekt in the red. Will they make a triumphant comeback with Cyberpunk 2077 or another game title? Only time will tell.

Gameplay
- Fixed an issue where after killing an NPC and stealing their car, their body could get stuck in the car.
- Adam Smasher will no longer receive damage during animations between his attack phases.
- Fixed an issue where dropping an NPC’s body caused too much destruction.
- Cataresist Cyberware should now work properly.
Visual Fixes
- Johnny’s spectral appearance in various quests.
- Various issues related to clipping in NPCs’ clothes.
- The appearance of rocks in the Badlands.
- An issue where one of the Maelstromers was T-posing.
Stability and performance
- Numerous crash fixes in animations, UI, scene, physics and gameplay systems.
- Memory optimizations and memory management improvements in various systems (reducing the number of crashes).
- Various console CPU optimizations.
- Memory and I/O improvement leading to fewer instances of NPCs with identical appearances spawning in the same area, and to improved streaming.
PC-specific
- Fixed an issue where it wasn’t possible to click the upgrade button while playing with 1280×720 resolution.
- Fixed an issue where toggling the Windowed and Fullscreen modes with Alt+Enter made the game appear unresponsive.
- [Steam] Changing language settings to default will now set it to the language of the Steam client.
Xbox-specific
- Fixed an issue where signing out during a scene fade-out could result in the game being partially unresponsive.
- Fixed an issue where the Pause Menu would open again on its own.
