If you’ve been paying attention to Cyberpunk 2077 news these past few days, it won’t come as a shock that the game is highly buggy and doesn’t run well on older consoles. While critical reviews — played mostly on PC — were glowing to start, one outlet in particular has put out a review focused on base consoles like the Xbox One. IGN‘s score there tells a very different story about CD Projekt Red’s latest RPG.

IGN‘s plea reads as follows: “Please don’t play Cyberpunk 2077 on a base Xbox One or PS4. It is a shockingly bad way to experience what is a fantastic RPG on better hardware.” The score? A 4 out of 10. That qualifies as “Bad” on the IGN scale, and really makes you wonder why CDPR thought this game was ready to go.

It seems apparent Cyberpunk 2077 would’ve been rough regardless of whether or not it got that last delay out of November into December. I’m not entirely sure the game would’ve been okay had it come out in January or February 2021. It needed more time in the oven, especially on those older machines like the base Xbox One. Instead, the game was put out with a day-zero patch that didn’t fix near enough, and the need for more patches over the next few weeks and months.

In an ideal world, CDPR would’ve held back on announcing a release date until it was sure the game was finished. On top of that, holding that release until the next-gen versions of the game were done would’ve also helped. That didn’t happen, leading to one of the more subpar launches of a huge title in recent memory. The only thing left to do now is sit back and see how long it takes for Cyberpunk 2077 to become playable on Xbox One.
