release date for Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red is now an industry giant. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings showed off the company’s potential. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was arguably the best Western RPG of the Xbox One/PS4 generation. Now CDPR is ready to drop its next massive title on the gaming community. But when is that happening? What is the Cyberpunk 2077 release date?

For those of you playing on Xbox One or Xbox One X, the answer is pretty simple: Cyberpunk 2077 launches on Dec. 10, 2020. On that date, you’ll get the standard Xbox One version as well as a higher-definition version tailored for the Xbox One X. Many of you will undoubtedly jump in on that date and immediately consume everything the world of Cyberpunk has to offer. I, quite honestly, am unsure if I’ll be able to hold back myself.

But you’ll notice the date for Cyberpunk 2077‘s release comes just a month after the launch of the Xbox Series X and S. Thus a conundrum is formed. CD Projekt Red has already stated that there will be an enhanced next-gen version of the game coming at some point in the future, and that will undoubtedly run a lot better on Microsoft’s new machines. The problem? We have no idea when that new-and-improved version of Cyberpunk 2077 will arrive.

So those of you buying either an Xbox Series X or an Xbox Series S will have a real decision to make. The Cyberpunk that launches in November will likely be great, but it won’t be the best version of the game. You’ll almost certainly get stellar graphics, but based on past AAA releases, the odds don’t seem good that Cyberpunk 2077 will run anywhere close to 60 frames-per-second. It’ll probably be locked at 30.

Can you sacrifice those frames and a whole lot of resolution to play the game at launch on your Xbox One? Are you okay with chopping that frame rate in half to experience Cyberpunk 2077 on your Xbox One X? If so, the above release date is the one you’ll want to circle on your calendar.

If you want to play the absolute best version of Cyberpunk 2077, however, you’ll have to duck some spoilers while you wait for the Xbox Series X upgrade. We don’t know when that’ll come along, but it’s certain to add a slew of improvements to what’s already shaping up to be a graphically stunning game.
