Cyberpunk 2077 upgrade release date is announced. It is currently scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2021.

Asked about the upgrade, VP of finance Piotr Nielubowicz highlighted it as one of the big events taking place for Cyberpunk this year. They pointed out that it has the potential to influence the overall atmosphere surrounding the game:

“We announced free DLCs for gamers, and that’s something we have in our pipeline for this year. And big event for this year is the Cyberpunk next-gen edition for the second half of this year.

That, I believe, should also have a significant influence on sales and the general atmosphere about Cyberpunk, if I can name it this way.”

CD Projekt stressed that the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be rushed to market. One of the top priorities on the team is to give it sufficient testing time.

The company also noted that they are “going for a lot of changes” internally. The team is changing some of its models and processes starting with the next-gen version.

“Of course, I mean, time for testing for CP next-gen shall be sufficient, and that’s one of the top priorities we have in terms of that release. We put a lot of effort into the next-gen editions of both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk as we believe the next-gen compatible versions will be crucial for the longevity of both games.”

What to expect for Cyberpunk 2077

The next-gen updates are still expected in 2021, although the timing is still unclear. CD Projekt Red released a new road map and in mid-January, they’ll be working on two major patches first. The first update is expected to drop on Jan. 23. According to the road map, the company is aiming for the latter half of 2021 for the next-gen updates

The more serious update will be available next year when the Xbox Series X and PS5 versions of the game are released. This one should replicate the performance of the next-gen games and will be fully optimized for those systems rather than just boosting the performance of the Xbox One and PS4 versions. It’s also assumed that features like ray tracing will also be included.
